Pleasure Rebel: New Queer Performance

pleasurerebel_new.jpg

Curated by Nastalie Bogira, Featuring Nicole M. Smith, Melissa Birch, and Tim Carroll/Vena Ambrose/Natasha Hassett

Pleasure Rebel is a new seasonal performance series featuring artists working in dance, performance art and video, from the Twin Cities and beyond. Come see artists challenge the boundaries of queer art forms.

Presenting:
nicole M. smith : artist, educator, community activist, youth advocate. A native of Saint Paul, Nicole attributes her love of all things creative (theatre, writing, spoken word – etc) to her experience at Central High School. a story to be told - in a syllabic savvy flow | musicality will keep you vibin [no doubt] | you won’t regret checking her out….

Pre-queer, post-identity live artist Melissa Birch dissects need and privatizes socialization to make interdisciplinary performance deconstructions fun again. In Tracing Paper Pelvises, under the xray eyes of contemporary scrutinies, collective contradictions create a compulsory culture, then ferment. Forgetting persists across endangered futures. These are the bar codes from back home.

Tim Carroll is an installation and performance artist. Vena Ambrose is a sculptor and writer. Natasha Hassett is a dancer who often finds herself doing other arty stuff. I Was Born Breach is a hit and run liturgical mass presented in phantasmagoria. Expressing the violence of life, including that of religion, to expose what rips away the human experience leaving us at our animalistic core; try as you may, fend for yourself you can run but you cannot hide.
