Presented by Works Progress and Andy Sturdevant
Part talk show, part arts and culture review, Salon Saloon invites local artists, designers, musicians and social entrepreneurs to the stage for an unpredictable, uninhibited conversation about creative life in the Twin Cities. This Month: The Communist Show
There is a specter haunting Minneapolis - the specter of the Salon Saloon Communist Show.
In a world where the phrase "is obama communist" racks up 11 million Google hits, Salon Saloon decides that it's high time to take an in-depth look at this bankrupt economic and political ideology, along with its history, its influence, and the various ways in which it might be expressed onstage, in song, by heroic, handsome bearded laborers.
Joining in to shed some light will be:
+ STEVE MARSH of Mpls-St. Paul magazine, on George Orwell, the Spanish Civil War and misguided leftist idealism run amuck
+ JAMES GLADMAN (with musical guests FOOD PYRAMID), dipping into his extensive bag of VHS ephemera and showing a totally radical video presentation
+ MASHA ZAVIALOVA of The Russian Museum of Art, on art in a Communist society, and her own life and experiences in the Soviet Union
Also featuring ERIN SEARCH-WELLS of SuperGroup in a special appearance.
We're trying to book a 40-person Red Army Chorus, too, so hopefully that will come together. Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Salon Saloon audience? Lose those shackles and join us at the Bryant-Lake Bowl.
