Twin Cities’ alt-Americana favorite Ghost Wagon returns to the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater – this time with its holiday musical XTRAVAGANZA. Ghost Wagon is a collaborative of similar-minded musicians, led by singer/songwriter Chuck Nelson, who take a shine to creating darkly honest music and playing it with earnestness and a bit of a wry smile.

Ghost Wagon’s unique sounds make it difficult to place within any particular genre. Rather than trying to attach labels, just listen to the songs – songs that present moving lyrics, beautiful melodies, and are adorned with multilayered instruments (fiddle, sax, pedal steel, accordion, guitars, uke, mando, keys) to evoke emotion as well as thought.

What began as a collection of musicians simply looking to make authentic music and sharing it with others, has, within a couple years’ time, seen Ghost Wagon playing many of the finest clubs the Twin Cities has to offer, including Lee’s Liquor Lounge, 7th Street Entry, Nomad World Pub, Acadia Café, and the Contented Cow (Northfield) - often to sold out audiences. Their debut album Crooked & Dark, recorded at legendary Twin Cities’ recording studio, The Terrarium (Semisonic, Soul Asylum, Haley Bonar, Trampled by Turtles, Jayhawks), and released at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater in June 2017, continues to receive positive reviews and radio air play.

“The influence of groups like Son Volt and the Jayhawks can be heard prominently, but a closer listen also reveals echoes of Johnny Cash and Tom Waits.”

“I dig the songwriting, it's pretty dark. Ghost Wagon doesn’t shirk from calling out the darkness in its sunny front porch vibe. Sounds like: Jayhawks meets John Mellencamp with a dash of John Doe & Exene. Male/female harmonies - that's a distinguishing element”

And now it’s time to bring the music back to the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater.  Come join the holiday party as Ghost Wagon plays favorites off Crooked & Dark, along with some new ones and a few holiday jingles that are sure to please - all the while joined by some special musical friends.

This time around Ghost Wagon is: Steve Burnett (bass), Marc Dockter (keys), Chris Hagedorn (sax), Ryan Kirvida (drums), John Mack (guitar), Chuck Nelson (vocals/guitars/harp), and AJ Swenson (vocals).
