Join the Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society for a reimagining of old-time radio circa New Year’s Eve 1947. The Society promises an evening of vintage thrills, performed in the style of a classic radio broadcast, including commercial breaks, live sound effects, and eerie music. Dress in your best 1940s attire and raise a glass to yesteryear!

Members of the Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society include local theatrical favorites: Shanan Custer (2 Sugars, Room for Cream), Joshua English Scrimshaw (Comedy Suitcase), Tim Uren (H.P. Lovecraft's "The Rats in the Walls"), Eric Webster (Shade's Brigade) and Joe Weismann (The Jaztronauts).

“Shanan Custer, Joshua English Scrimshaw, Tim Uren, Eric Webster, and Joe Weismann (who also handles the all-important organ duties) have this down cold — not just the technical aspect, but the tone… Chilling as it might be to experience these tales (complete with old-school ads) alone in the dark, it’s much more fun to experience them with a crowd.”

-City Pages

“The glow of the old radio sets the stage and seeing how the sound effects are created adds so much more than just hearing them. The cast of Joshua English Scrimshaw, Tim Uren, Eric Webster, Shanan Custer and Joe Weismann are all extremely talented and hilarious, taking on multiple voices and characters. If you have recently become interested in radio or audio drama through podcasts, why not see a recreation of how radio drama was at the beginning with The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society.”

-Twin Cities Stages

“This show is an entertaining and creepy homage to an era gone by, that of the radio drama. The creators of this show have a podcast of the same name… and their love for and knowledge of the genre is evident… There's a reason these radio horror shows were so popular, and happily they continue to exist in some form today thanks to Ghoulish Delights.”

-Cherry and Spoon

The Society’s live performances are inspired by the podcast of the same name. The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society Podcast revisits the great horror and suspense shows from the golden age of radio, including tales from Suspense, Lights Out Everybody, The Witch’s Tale, The Shadow, and more. Each episode features a classic, or maybe-not-so classic story from the scary old-time radio vault, complete with historical notes and nerdy trivia. At the end of each podcast, your hosts, Tim, Joshua and Eric discuss the merits of the story and decide whether or not it stands the test of time.

Joshua has performed with a wide variety of local theater people and groups including (but not limited to) Bedlam Theater, Ben Sandell Presents, Maximum Verbosity, Actor’s Theater of Minnesota, Off Leash Area and, of course, Ghoulish Delights. Tim Uren has been an actor, director, and playwright in the Twin Cities for over twenty years. He's the devious mind behind Ghoulish Delights, a theater company dedicated to staging tales of horror and suspense. Tim also writes and designs for board games and card games, and would probably love to share a game night with you.

Joe Weisman has a B.A. in music from Carleton College and has pursued a variety of musical projects, from a cappella groups to ukulele duets. In the early ‘90s he was a fixture on the regional Bluegrass scene as bass player in the popular Christensen Sisters Band and performing with folk diva Becky Schlegel – including on A Prairie Home Companion. His own band, the Jaztronauts, rode the late 90s swing dance wave with regular appearances on Channel 45’s Big Bad Movie and Saint Paul Saints games, and even a three-week club date in Zurich, Switzerland. His original jazz/pop group the Smarts was the musical component of Minnesota Public Radio’s In the Loop program, and has spent the past 6 seasons as house band for the performing arts showcase series, Sample Night Live. Joe’s compositions formed the basis of the musical play, “Lemonade for the Lawnboy,” and the Smarts served as pit band for the premier run of the production in June 2015. Joe has lent his singing voice to commercials for GMAC, Miller Lite, Affinity Bank and more.
