Rockstar Storytellers

Rockstar Storytellers is a collective of solo performers from a variety of disciplines — spoken word, stand-up, slam poetry, improv, creative non-fiction, sketch comedy, playwriting… hell, we’ve even got a mime. Described as being, “soaked in hipster irony” (with more than a dash of geekiness), the Rockstar Storytellers are still kicking a** and taking names. Come join us for our SEVENTH season at the Bryant Lake Bowl as we prove, "There ain't no party, like a Rockstar Storytellers' Party!"

XXXX (Now with More X!)

Thursday, February 20 at 7:00 pm
Doors open at 6:00 pm
You think you've got bad relationship stories? We beg to differ. (No, seriously, we're begging.) We guarantee that we've got one that's sillier, sadder, stupider, sicker, or stranger -- and that's just the letter "S"! Drag your significant other along, or drown yourself in our own unique mixture of whiskey, laughter, and unfathomable sorrow. Hosted by Ben San Del, and featuring Rob Callahan and Amy Salloway! A XXXX party. Because three X's could not contain this show.

Minnesota Beach Party

Sunday, April 6 at 7:00 pm

The polar vortex lasted one day too long, and something in the collective Rockstar consciousness snapped. It doesn't matter if it's sunny or snowy outside, in here we're ready to bring on the winter weight and love handles! Join us as we level our own unique buffet of personality disorders against lingering seasonal depression. Hosted by Courtney McLean, and featuring Allison Broeren, phillip low, and Amy Salloway! Where the sand meets the surf and the urge meets the surge and OH GOD WE JUST WANT TO FEEL AGAIN.

School's Out Party

Sunday, June 1 at 7:00 pm
Doors open at 6:00 pm
At long last, SCHOOL IS OUT! Actually, for some of us, it's been out longer than we care to admit. Then again, caring to admit things is exactly what we get paid for (sometimes). Whether our graduation dates are recent or in misty decades that have since passed into legend, our scars are still fresh. Come, and we will show you some truly mighty wounds! Hosted by one of Rob Callahan's many personalities.

Sunday, July 13 at 7:00 pm
Doors open at 6:00 pm
It's been a weird, wild, wondrous year, and we've partied as hard as our various physical and mental ailments either allowed or insistently demanded. Not for fans of mixed drinks, this show is the hard stuff, straight-up: our favorite stories from the past season. Relive the memories or hear what you missed, this is your last chance before your folks get home, the cops get called, and you find yourself scaling some teenager's fence. Not a euphemism. Probably.

September 2014

The Rockstars Get Literary

Sunday, February 8 at 7:00 pm
Doors open at 6:00 pm
Join the Rockstar Storytellers for their “No Sense and Bruised Pride: the Rockstar Storytellers explore Jane Austen” show. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a Rockstar show is the best pre-Valentine’s date. Especially this show, which is full of stories inspired by the greatest romance writer in the English language – Jane Austen. Join us for our third installment of Season 8: the Rockstars Get Literary.

Carrie Climbs the Dark Tower to Find It; Or the Rockstars Explore Stephen King

Sunday, April 12 at 7:00 pm
Doors open at 6:00 pm
Hosted by Levi Weinhagen. The Rockstars Get Literary with the writer who “singlehandedly made popular fiction grow up,” according to Jeffrey Deaver – Stephen King. Debate has raged for decades as to whether King is a serious literary force or a mere popular genre-writer. These stories will deal with none of that, but merely explore the wonder and the lasting impression of the King of Horror.

The Joy of Rockstars

Sunday, June 7 at 7:00 pm
Doors open at 6:00 pm
A quick Google search of “The Joy of” brings up “Sex” first, then “Cooking,” and then a host of more obscure book options. So, what will the Rockstars tells stories about? Probably themselves. But isn’t that the joy of these shows? The mundane becoming hilarious (and occasionally touching). Join us for the last show of our “Rockstarts Get Literary” season.

Doors open at 6:00 pm
It’s the final show of the Rockstar Storyteller’s Eighth Season. For five shows, you heard the Rockstars Get Literary, telling stories inspired by some of our favorite authors – Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Stephen King, J.R.R. Tolkien, and "The Joy of..." writers. Now we return to the best pieces created during the season. It’s going to be a wonderful and wordy wander through our bookshelves. See you there!
