Did you know that Martin Luther King Jr.'s right hand man was gay? Do you know the history of leather culture? Where voguing actually comes from? Regardless of your answer, Drunk Queer History is absolutely the show for you! We pack this show with three different stories about or that affect the queer community including one where YOU get a say in choosing what story we tell. Our improv team takes any drunken mistakes the storyteller makes and runs wild creating once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to see sketches about gay horses, musicals about the Lavender Scare and so, so much more. If you don't know what any of those references are, don't worry! We explicitly talk you through it so all are welcome here, regardless of current queer history knowledge.
For going on 9 seasons Gadfly has been bringing you the queer and feminist stories no one else has been, and that's been especially true since the conception of Drunk Queer History. This storytelling and improv show is packed with somber moments and big laughs alike as we take you on an entertaining ride through our history. Denzel Belin of Brave New Workshop & Huge Theater fame is returning to Gadfly to take on the role of drunk storyteller this January at Bryant Lake Bowl. Belin is a tried and true master of theater, improv, and sketch comedy and is thrilled to give inebriated storytelling a try. Our improv duo is always top notch and performers come from Huge Theater, Comedy Sports and the Brave New Workshop to get queer with us. All performers and the producing team are LGBTQ+ and Gadfly actively uses their all-queer work to fight against patriarchy and white supremacy. This show will be raising funds for their March production, "Working Title: 60 Queer Plays in 90 Queer Minutes". You will have an opportunity to donate more than the ticket price partway through the show.
