Let’s Misbehave: Mistress Ginger Sings Cole Porter

  • Bryant Lake Bowl 810 W Lake St Minneapolis United States (map)

Cabaret queen Mistress Ginger has unearthed a treasure trove of delicious Cole Porter tunes for your Valentine’s amusement. With Franco Holder on piano, Ginger takes you on a musical journey from a chic penthouse in Manhattan to the Café de Paris. Revel in the music of one of the 20th century’s greatest – and gayest – composers whose songs are famously full of wit, glamour, passion, and the permission to be naughty. Let’s do it!

Since 2006, Mistress Ginger has been bringing her cabaret magic to a variety of Twin Cities venues, from the Bryant-Lake Bowl to the Ordway Center, with musical collaborators including Rick Carlson, Lori Dokken, and George Maurer. With a passion for storytelling through song, she takes her audiences on whimsical journeys full of heart and imagination. Her cookbook, Mistress Ginger Cooks, was published in 2014. “Mistress Ginger is a cabaret singer who brings warmth and depth to a lyric, and always lets the song shine through. She moves easily from the steam of a torch song to the campy wink of a double entendre – always while holding up the classic composers and lyricists she loves.” –Michael Whistler of Interact Center for the Arts, for MPR News Art Hounds, 2021

Franco Holder (pianist) is a freelance pianist in the Twin Cities. He has performed with the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra and at such venues as the Schubert Club, Baroque Room, and O'Shaughnessy Auditorium. Franco also enjoys musical theater and has worked as a vocal coach and accompanist for both the Guthrie and Ordway theaters. He is a past winner of the Artistic Ambassadors Competition and regularly performs with the MNKINO Film Festival Orchestra, which brings together filmmakers, composers, and musicians in collaboration to create new short films and original scores, performed live.
