"Mini Plays for Minneapolis (+ St. Paul)" is a piece for the Twin Cities, by the Twin Cities. In Hedge Theatre Company's first original work, we explore the voices of emerging young playwrights across the Twin Cities who were tasked with one simple thing: to tell a story for the Twin Cities in 600 words or less. Inspired by the time several Hedge Theatre members spent amongst the boom of new theatre in Dublin, "Mini Plays for Minneapolis (+ St. Paul)" is our love letter to the Twin Cities. After asking writers to put forth their thoughts on where the Twin Cities are at, where they're going, and what they need to hear, we have collaboratively formed an introspective and celebratory piece on the Twin Cities by solely using the tiny play form.

After reaching out to various communities and receiving an intriguing array of submissions, the final selection showcases a series of works from seasoned creators like Theatre Corrobora and An Alleged Theatre Company alongside pieces from first-time playwrights. The mixed collection includes pieces grappling with growing older, finding personal beauty through art, the Minnesota Goodbye, a queer cross-cultural relationship, and a satirical version of the company 3M. Presented by a team of entirely young artists, “Mini Plays for Minneapolis (+ St. Paul)” is a journey through the thoughts of the next generation of theatre creators on what their home needs to hear.

Hedge Theatre Company is a Twin Cities-based performing arts company that produces relevant, contemporary work. We intend to develop young artists and nurture diverse and urgent perspectives on a student budget.
