4Play with Threshold Theater

  • Bryant Lake Bowl 810 W Lake St Minneapolis United States (map)

Flirting, a pharmacy, a hair salon, an emergency room, and writer’s block: it's all 4Play Four new comedic LGBTQ+ short plays and a monologue from five female writers.

“Amsterdam” by Colette Cullen: A married lesbian recounts the joy of her unexpected "coming out moment" as a teenager on a summer trip to Amsterdam.

“Hurry Up and Wail” by Anna Ralls: During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, two impatient non-binary friends banter as they wait for a testosterone prescription at the drive-through pharmacy.

“The Weird Ellen Prom Queen Trendsetters” by Elizabeth Shannon: On the afternoon of their Senior Prom, Wendy and Francesca's trip to the hairdresser spurs a conversation about the difficulties of coming out.

“Bluetooth” by Liz Dooley: Finn gets a phone call from his ex-husband, who’s on his way to the hospital with their daughter.

“Just for Context” by Bethany Dickens Assaf: Elena is struggling to write a new play, but advice from long-dead writers, belligerent readers, and competing expectations from herself and her parents (i.e.: context) are stifling her creativity. When her best efforts fail, she is forced to confront why she became a writer in the first place.

Threshold Theater’s mission to produce fresh LGBTQ+ works means we create a place for the voices of the LGBTQ+ community to tell our stories no matter our sexuality, age, race, religion, or gender identity through developing and producing the new scripts of living LGBTQ+ playwrights. (This is Threshold Theater’s first full production since the theatrical pause due to the pandemic.)
