11/22 Crescent Moon X Big Trouble

$15.00

The collaborative project Crescent Moon x Big Trouble is back at it again.

Let me catch you up quick. Big Trouble is an instrumental band featuring many members of Heiruspecs. Crescent Moon is one of the greatest rappers to ever come out of Minnesota, famous for his work with Oddjobs and Kill the Vultures. Going back to about 2007 Sean McPherson from Big Trouble drove a minidisc and minidisc player full of new music over to Crescent Moon’s house and they quickly carved out a beautiful EP full of instrumentals that blended in with Crescent Moon’s powerful lyrics.

In his lyrics, Crescent Moon offers a wide spectrum of emotions. Need some shit talk? No problem. A drinking song that sounds like it was either written 100 years in the future or the past? Done. A workaday story told from a completely left field point of view? Check. That spectrum gives Big Trouble the chance to bring their own wide spectrum in the world of instrumentals: a barren minimalist landscape punctuated by washed out slide guitar? Yes, chef. A lopsided chordal pattern that turns on itself when you least expect it? Hold my coffee. A 5/4 fusion blast with chords that dart around the key center? So glad you asked, yes.

Together, Crescent Moon and Big Trouble carve their own path, finding what works for the unique stories they want to tell with little regard for what a band is supposed to do. They’ve released the aforementioned EP and a three-song single. The group shows no signs of slowing down or speeding up. The path and pace they’ve chosen has led them into almost two decades of collaboration built on finding the best ways to push themselves and their music where it needs to go.

For the Bryant-Lake Bowl show on Saturday, November 22, Crescent Moon x Big Trouble will be sharing some new songs they’ve been working on as well as songs from earlier releases. Between day jobs, children and travel, it’s a rare thing indeed to catch Crescent Moon and Big Trouble on stage together, and you won’t regret making time for it in your busy schedule.
